Kangan, Oct 15 (KNO): Government Degree College (GDC) Kangan in collaboration with District Police Ganderbal Tuesday commemorated the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel — the Iron Man of India, with patriotic zeal and enthusiasm. The event highlighted Patel’s monumental contribution to India’s unity and integration. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, was the chief guest, while Station House Officer (SHO) Kangan, Lateef Ali, also attended the programme. Addressing the gathering of students and faculty, SSP Poswal, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), emphasized the importance of building confidence, leadership and communication skills among students to groom them into responsible citizens and future leaders. “Platforms like these provide students the opportunity to develop leadership qualities and self-confidence. Every student should actively participate rather than remain a mere spectator,” Poswal said. He urged teachers to motivate students to engage in public speaking and interactive activities, noting that confidence and effective communication are vital for personal and professional success. Reflecting on Sardar Patel’s legacy, the SSP lauded his visionary leadership and statesmanship during India’s formative years. “Patel was not only the Iron Man of India but also a strategic planner who unified princely states and ensured stability after partition. His efforts laid the foundation of modern India’s administrative and federal structure,” he remarked. Poswal further highlighted five key attributes for personal and professional success — character, commitment, conviction, courage, and courtesy. He encouraged students to remain focused on their goals, pursue excellence, and cultivate discipline through consistent effort. Speaking on career guidance, the SSP advised youth to focus on specialization and quality learning rather than collecting multiple degrees without direction. “There is no unemployment for skilled and dedicated individuals. Strive to be the best in your chosen field through hard work and clarity of thought,” he added. He also urged students to leverage technology and innovative ideas to promote entrepreneurship and social development, citing examples of service-based digital applications that can generate local employment opportunities. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from the college faculty, who expressed appreciation to District Police Ganderbal for their active involvement in student development and civic awareness initiatives—(KNO)
